Young Leaders, are Explorer Scouts who volunteer alongside the Adult Volunteer Team. Either in a Squirrel Drey, Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop. They’re a valuable asset to any leadership team and play a key, active role in the section bringing a range of fresh ideas to the table and acting as a positive role model for the young people they work alongside.
All Young Leaders, who are between the age of 13.5 and 17 must be members of the Tynemouth Young Leader Unit. Young People from outside of Scouting can also participate if they’re working towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, or Queen’s Guide Award.
The Young Leaders’ Scheme is the learning programme for Young Leaders. It contains 11 modules, and 4 missions to work through whilst volunteering with your chosen section. As well as developing valuable life skills, the scheme is also an opportunity for Explorers to make a positive impact in their local community, and to fulfil the service elements of many Top Awards in Scouts, or their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Recognition of Achievement is available along the way, and on completion of the Scheme.
All Young Leaders in Tynemouth will get access to a Digital System, called Scoutworks. Scoutworks will be used to notify Young Leaders when Modules are happening, submit evidence for their missions and to track their progress to earn the Young Leader Belt. You can log in to Scoutworks, here Scoutworks
